Gefion software introduces simplified licensing model
for its servlet engines, making the source code
available
Hermosa Beach, CA -- August 23, 1999 -- Gefion software
today announced the release of LiteWebServer 2.1 and
WAICoolRunner 2.1, its servlet engine products with
support for the latest version of Sun's servlet
technology. At the same time a new simplified licensing
model was introduced.
LiteWebServer™ is a pure Java web server.
Its extremely small size makes it ideal for embedded
systems, for bundling with web application demos sent
to potential customers, and for running web
applications distributed on CDs. It's also an easy to
use web server for servlet development, personal use
or a small intranet. WAICoolRunner™ is a Servlet
Engine for Netscape's FastTrack Server 3.01 and
Enterprise Server 3.0/3.5/3.6.
Both products implement the Java Servlet API 2.1 and
supports JavaServer Pages (JSP) through free third
party products such as GNUJSP and Sun's JSP 1.0
Reference Implementation.
The new license model works the same for both products:
they are free for non-commercial as well as commercial
use on a customer's own servers. Customers who purchase
a one year support license get email based support with
guaranteed response within 24 hours, access to the
complete source code, and rights to redistribute the
product as an integral part of the customer's own
product.
"We have received a lot of requests for quotes on
various bundling deals since the release of the 2.0
versions, but our old license policy didn't deal with
the needs for these customers," said Hans Bergsten,
president of Gefion software. "The new license
model makes it possible for people who just want to
use the products on their own sites to do so for free.
Customers who like more support or bundle our products
can now choose between a per-copy license for low
volumes or a license for unlimited copies."
Pricing and Availability
LiteWebServer 2.1 and WAICoolRunner 2.1 are available
now. Both products can be used free of charge on a
customer's own servers with limited support.
A support license adds the following support services:
- Email support, with a response within 24 hours.
- Access to the complete product source code.
- Access to a database with information about all
known problems and work-arounds if any.
- The right to bundle the product as part of
another product.
A support license is $149 per-copy for volumes of less
that eleven copies and $1,600 for unlimited number of
copies.
