Gefion software announces support for Java 2 (formerly
called JDK 1.2)
Hermosa Beach, CA -- December 8, 1998 -- Gefion
software today announced it's full support for the
next release of Sun Microsystems, Inc.'s Java(TM)
Development Kit (JDK(TM) version 1.2). Sun's
announcement of the availability of the next version
of the JDK was made today during the Java(SM) Business
Expo(SM) in New York.
"JDK 1.2 is a great leap forward for both us and our
customers as it provides new features and enhancements
of utmost importance for development and deployment of
platform-independent, scalable, reliable solutions,"
said Hans Bergsten, President of Gefion software. "We
are excited about incorporating the new JDK into our
products and are also really grateful for Sun's
decision to support a Linux port of JDK 1.2, allowing
our customers to build high-performance dynamic web
sites with our InstantOnline product on this popular
server platform in addition to all other major
platforms."
"Gefion software recognizes the real business value
that the Java platform, particularly the next release
of the JDK, holds for the enterprise," said Jon
Kannegaard, vice president and general manager of the
Java platform at Sun Microsystems, Inc.'s Java
Software. "We are delighted to see Gefion software
underscore its commitment to the Java platform and to
the advancement of Java technology."
InstantOnline is a standards based alternative to
proprietary server-side technologies like Microsoft's
Active Server Pages and Allaire's Cold Fusion.
Consisting of a set of Servlet components,
InstantOnline allows web site developers to build
dynamic database-driven web sites, use features like
automatic email notification, file uploading and
dynamic web forms without writing a single line of
code.
All Gefion software products will be verified to work
with JDK 1.2 before the end of the year, allowing
customers to immediately enjoy the improvements in
performance and stability offered by the new JDK
version. During 1999 Gefion software will incorporate
the new and enhanced features in all products,
taking advantage of the simplified deployment and
installation procedures, JDBC 2.0, collection classes,
the fine granular security model as well as the
enhancements in interoperability through RMI and Java
IDL.
